Star of New Discovery Channel TV Show
Leads Weekend Survival Adventures
(PRWEB)
July 13, 2010 - Incredible Adventures, the international adventure
company best known for offering MiG fighter jet
flights in Russia and great
white shark dives in San Francisco, now offers introductory
survival training adventures
with Green Beret Mykel Hawke, star of Discovery Channel's "Man,
Woman, Wild" and author of the book Hawke's
Green Beret Survival Manual. The weekend survival missions
are modeled after the US Army Special Forces Survival School Field
Exercise and designed for beginners.
Training
begins on a Friday night, with six hours of detailed instruction
from Hawke delivered in a hotel conference room. Incredible Adventures
suggests participants skip eating before the start of training
if they want a more realistic survival experience. After a late
night and just a few hours of sleep, trainees are transported
to a remote training site. Already tired and hungry, they begin
to practice the basic survival skills they've been taught, testing
their ability to survive.
The basic survival lessons taught by Hawke include how to find
and prepare food and water, how to make a shelter and how to build
a fire. Armed with only a knife, the clothes on their backs, and
a few essential medical and safety items, they spend Saturday
night alone outside. Hands-on training concludes on Sunday afternoon
with a food capture and preparation course and introductory lessons
in land navigation and wilderness medicine.
This isn't a normal weekend camping trip. Cell phones are confiscated
by Hawke before departing for the training site and using a flashlight
unless it's an absolute emergency earns you a failing grade. The
adrenaline-packed weekend is designed to be so exhausting that
for safety reasons, Hawke strongly encourages everyone to rest
up in a hotel Sunday night before departing for home.
Incredible Adventures is offering the survival training adventures
with Mykel Hawke in select cities in the US and Canada. The first
program is slated for August 13-15 in San Diego, CA. Other training
cities include San Antonio, TX and Miami, FL. The cost for the
US survival adventures is $1000 per person and does not include
hotel, airfare or other travel costs.
In October, Hawke leaves the country to conduct extended survival
training programs in Panama, Mexico, Ecuador and Columbia. The
longer programs sell for $5000 plus air fare and travel costs.
Hawke's television show, "Man, Woman, Wild", airs on Friday
nights on the Discovery Channel and co-stars his wife, journalist
Ruth England. The show follows the couple as they spend four days
surviving in remote locations around the world.
