"If
You're Not Living on the Edge, You're Taking Up Too Much Space"
The
quote Bill House ends his emails with pretty much sums up his philosophy of
life. The 77 year-old Florida native just scheduled his second zero-gravity flight with Incredible Adventures.
The soon-to-be frequent floater said he didn't want to miss the
historic first flight from NASA's Kennedy Space Center. You
may remember reading about Bill when he made a tandem HALO jump with us in Memphis. Bill already
has his 4th Incredible Adventure scheduled. He and his wife Elizabeth
will join us on a great white shark adventure in San Francisco
in September. (The adventure gene must run in Bill's family. He recently
told us he took a slingshot and modified bungee ride in Orlando with
his 80 year old sister.)
This Isn't Your Grandpa's
Biplane
We
almost hate to call the Pitts S2C a biplane. Too many people hear the
word "biplane" and expect to see a bright yellow plane with an open
cockpit and a pilot dressed in goggles and a scarf. Trust us. The Pitts
is an entirely different bird. She's fast and she moves like you wouldn't
believe. That's why she's the favorite of aerobatic pilots around the
world and the star of our California Sky
Thrills Adventure. Here's what Shirley wrote us about her recent
flight with pilot Mike "Rocket" Blackstone:
"My
experience was AMAZING! Mike was absolutely wonderful. He's an incredible
teacher. I was thinking that if he had any hesitation talking, the plane
would be in the ocean. Talking fast and with accuracy is a prerequisite
for being a great aerobatics teacher, and he is that as well as a great
pilot himself. I LOVED it and now feel very much a part of the "Incredible
Adventures" family!
Thank you Sheri and Incredible Adventures
for making such exciting experiences available to us mere mortals. I
can't wait for my next!"
By the way, Shirley is 70, is taking flying
lessons and likes people to know that life doesn't stop because
the age numbers are creeping up.

This Must Be the Year
of the 70's...
You've just read about two incredible adventurers
over 70. We can't help but mention a third and fourth. Earlier this
month, 77 year-old Roland and 70 year-old Alan flew jet fighters.
It wasn't the first time in a fighter jet for Alan. He flew a MiG-25 with Incredible Adventures a few years ago.
Shark Boat
Undergoing Extreme Makeover
It's
not like she needed a makeover. The 59ft Tamalpais was already a beautiful
boat. But, when this season's great white shark
season in San Francisco's Farallon Islands starts in September,
she'll be showing off a brand new coat of paint and two environmentally-friendly
new engines. The Tamalpais was recently dry-docked, tuned up and
Coast Guard inspected to make sure she's ready for another busy shark
season. We're really excited about the new engines, since they're expected
to cut the travel time to the Farallons significantly.
Sales of our San
Francisco shark dives are already three times what they were at
this time last year, so if you're looking forward to a great white shark
adventure, you'd better book early. Every year is a sell-out and he
who hesitates will miss the boat.

Sharks in
Mexico
For a longer, live-aboard adventure, consider a
five day journey to Isla Guadalupe, Mexico. Trips depart
in September, October and November and the cost is $2650 per person.
Extreme Diving in
the Bahamas
Scuba Dive International is teaming up with
Capt Tim Taylor of the RV Tiburon to offer an adventure
that combines rebreather training with great diving among the wild dolphins
of the Bahamas. For more information about this adventure for divers,
visit the new "More Adventures" section of our website.
Moscow Pilot Named
Hero of the Russian Federation
Join
us in congratulating pilot Alexandre Pavlov. He's always been a hero
to us and to the many Incredible Adventures customers who have flown
MiGs with him, but now he's a hero to all of Russia as well. He
was recently named a Hero of the Russian Federation, which is one of
the highest honors a pilot can receive. You can read more about "Sasha"
and our other incredible Russian Top Guns
on our website.

Record
Speed
|
![Hollywood top gun L39 flights](/newsletter/hollywood04-160.jpg)
You always hear about
fast movers in Hollywood, but our guy Dave Riggs (Hollywood
Top gun) is faster than them all. How fast is he? He's so
fast he just set two more speed records. Flying the L-39 C jet
fighter from LA to Phoenix, Riggs claimed the speed record for
Speed Over a Recognized Course, averaging 561.2 mph. The speed
is recognized as a US records by the National
Aeronautic Association. (Read the Press Release here.)
Dave set the records
along with fellow pilot Jeff Acord. When he's not setting speed
records with Dave, Jeff just happens to be a pilot for Barnstorming
Adventures, the people who provide our great biplane, warbird and air combat adventures
near San Diego.

Your
Machete Questions Answered |
![Myke Hawke of Specops on Discovery's Science of Survival](/newsletter/tinyhawke.jpg)
In last month's newsletter, we
urged you to tune in to watch Myke Hawke of Specops on The
Discovery Channel. It appears that a whole lot of you did.
As a result, Hawke has received a ton of emails, asking him
about the machete he used in the program on survival. Here's the
info all you backyard jungle warriors have asked for:
Hawke said he actually used a cheap
machete he picked up in Southeast Asia because machetes frequently
break or get lost and he just happened to like the style and weight,
but he said the one used on the show is actually too heavy for
normal use. His recommendations are Cold
Steel's Kukri for woodland, their double edge machete for general
survival and their heavy metal for jungle or light metal when
a lot of cutting is expected.
If you missed Hawke, you can purchase the "Science
of Survival" DVD set on the Discovery
Channel's website.
For one-on-one survival training with
Myke Hawke or one of our other incredible Specops guys, call or
email Sheri.

While
Jane's Away...
|
IA
president Jane Reifert will be out of the office a lot in the
next few months. May 4-7 she'll be at the International Space
Development Conference in Los Angeles giving a presentation on
civilian space flight training and on May 17th, she'll be at NASA
Ames in San Jose, talking about marketing space tourism. Then,
in June, she'll be bound for London and a space conference sponsored
by the Royal Aeronautical Society.
Make sure the rest of the IA team doesn't
decide to take time off and go to the beach while she's away. Call
them up and send
them emails. Ask them questions about our newest adventures,
or better yet, keep them busy scheduling your next adventure. Jane's
counting on you to keep them working.
