Live from the Farallones - It's Sharks, Seals & Seabirds

The California Academy of Sciences, US Fish and Wildlife Service and PRBO Farallon Islands rock formationsConservation Science have teamed up to provide live streaming video direct from San Francisco's Farallon Islands, the location of our US great white shark adventures. A web cam capable of being controlled remotely has been placed atop the island's lighthouse. Researchers hope to use the camera to observe breeding bird, seal and sea lion colonies. They also believe it can be used to observe ocean conditions, whales and possibly, just possibly, great white sharks.

The new web cam does have some glitches. It seems to not work more than it does work. But trust us, when it is working, the Shark diving in the Farallonsview is pretty amazing. We've bookmarked the website and check the camera often and suggest other shark and nature lovers do the same. Here is the link.

IA's great white shark expeditions to San Francisco's Farallon Islands begin September 26th and continue through November 14th. Space on our two shark boats is limited. One day trips are $875. Two day trips are $1175 and one day topside-only spots are available for $375. For more information, contact Jane at 800-644-7382.

Greg Gets Goofy Without Oxygen

RocketShip XCOR Suborbital space flight training programIA's Greg Claxton was on the road again in August, testing yet another space adventure. He was one of several "test dummies" invited to preview XCOR Aerospace and Rocketship Tours' suborbital flight training program in Arizona. Highlights for Greg were high-g flight in an aerobatic plane and the time he spent in a hyperbaric chamber learning first-hand the effects of oxygen deprivation at high-altitude. (Reports are that Greg got very, very silly when deprived of oxygen in the pressure chamber. Those of us who work with Greg on a daily basis know that Greg gets silly even when he has oxygen.)

RocketShip AdventuresYou can read more about XCOR Aerospace's suborbital space plane, the Lynx, on our website. The vehicle is being built to take a pilot and single passenger "beyond the edge of space" to an altitude of 200,000 feet or higher for a price of $95,000. Incredible Adventures is taking advance reservations for the high-altitude adventures now. Contact Adventure Tester Greg for more info.

Get Wet With the Humpback Whales of the Silver Bank

Swim with Humpback Whales in DominicanRepublicIncredible Adventures is teaming up with Conscious Breath Adventures to offer "swimming with the whales" along the Dominican Republic's legendary Silver Bank. This isn't a dive adventure, and technically, you won't be swimming with the whales either.

Conscious Breath Adventures holds one of the few permits issued to conduct "soft-in-water" whale encounters within the Dominican Republic's Marine Mammal Sanctuary. You'll float silently on the surface of the water near "cooperative" whales, waiting for their natural curiousity to draw them closer to you. The adventures make it possible for you to encounter humpback whales, in their environment and on their terms.

Week-long adventures on the Silver Bank aboard the M/V Sun Dancer are offered in February, March and April. The cost is approximately $3500 per person, plus airfare. (The price estimate includes estimated Sanctuary and Port fees and crew gratuity.) This adventure is so new, it hasn't made it on to our website yet, so if you want details, call or write Jane.

Everest Skydiver Makes History Over Baghdad

Skydive Over EverestLast October, Incredible Adventures customer Fareed Lafta made history by becoming one of the first to Skydive Over Everest.

This June, Fareed made another historic skydive, but not the one we thought he was going to make. Fareed was scheduled to join Incredible Adventures in Alaska and become one of the first to Skydive Denali. Unfortunately, the well-known Iraqi adventurer's request for a tourist visa to enter the US was denied.

So, instead of skydiving higher than Alaska's Mt McKinley in June, Fareed returned to Baghdad from his home in Dubai at the invitation of Iraq's Prime Minister and made a very special "jump for peace" over the war-torn city. You can read about his skydive over Baghdad, and his quest to become the first Iraqi in space here.

Can You Stomach It?

HALO Jumper testimonial"The HALO jump was a breathtaking experience and the most exciting thing I have ever done (besides being in two wars in the Middle East).

I was impressed by the dedication and professionalism of all staff members involved and NEVER felt unsafe or unprotected. I can HIGHLY recommend this experience to anyone who can stomach jumping out of a plane at almost 30,000 feet."
