Dive with Giant Mantas, Sharks & Whales

Swim with the World's Friendliest Giant Mantas at
Socorro Island, Mexico

Incredible Big Animal Diving

Uncompromising Safety

Amazing Guest Experience

You can see mantas in many places around the world. But nowhere else boasts a population of giant mantas that literally seek out interaction with divers and snorkellers.

The behavior these giant mantas exhibit is almost inexplicable. These gentle giants with a wingspan up to 20 feet consistently approach divers for intimate eye-to-eye encounters. If you are able to be calm and still in the water, you are almost sure to experience what we call "manta love."

While mantas are the reason to voyage out to Socorro, there are lots of other animals to see, including schooling hammerheards and silky sharks, plus 8 other species of sharks, bottlenose dolphins that consistently hang out with divers at certain dive sites, large schools of pelagic fish, and, in season, humpback whales.

SOCORRO ISLAND FAQ

WHAT AM I GOING TO SEE?

Mantas, dolphins, and sharks, oh my! What makes Socorro specia is the unique, incredibly friendly interaction between the divers and the giant mantas, and between the divers and the dolphins. Plus, you may see up to 10 species of sharks!

WHEN SHOULD I GO?

The diving at Socorro is fantastic year-round, but hurricane season runs from the middle of July through the beginning of November; so we don't offer trips at that time. There are 3 distinct seasons for our Socorro trips:

  • November & December: Giant Mantas, Sharks & Dolphins, warmest water temperature
  • January - April: Humpback Whale Season, plus Giant Mantas, Sharks & Dolphins, cooler water
  • May - July: Largest concentration of animals

HOW MANY DIVES DO I GET?

Loads! We strive to provide 4 dives per day, except the Navy Base check-in day, when you will have 3 dives and an evening snorkel with silky sharks. Noting that weather conditions or crowding by some of our competitors may limit some of the diving.

HOW MUCH EXPERIENCE DO I NEED?

Depends! We cater to divers of all experience levels. Snorkelers are welcome, too. Experienced and self-reliant divers will have complete freedom on their dives, if they choose, and will be the first in the water. Snorkelers, newly certified divers, or those who would like extra TLC, will be with a divemaster from start to finish. Noting that not all dives will be suitable for our friends with less experience. Most of our friends will fit somewhere in between.

HOW DO I GET THERE?

Simple! Fly into Cabo San Lucas (SJD), the fun and sun-soaked vacation hotspot in Baja California. We suggest meeting at our dive center on the boardwalk in the main harbour. We offer a complementary warm-up dive in Cabo for anyone voyaging to Socorro.

HOW MUCH DOES A TRIP COST?

We pride ourselves on offering the best guest experience at the best rates. Our ships feature 4 levels of accommodations and vary depending on trip length and season. A stateroom accommodation on a typical 8-night trip is USD$3195 per person, plus tax.

Two minutes into the dive and 7 dolphins pass by to say hello...what a wonderful start to the day...and not only did they come wish us a good morning, but they stayed and played for several minutes, and then periodically stopped by to see what we were all up to throughout the entire dive. Then came the mantas...and as we worked our way around the rock, we were constantly surrounded by a plethora of fish of all sizes and colors and not to forget the multitude of baby white tip sharks swimming throughout this life-sized aquarium. Beautiful dive...thank you Nautilus team! And quick note as to the second dive...hammerheads, tiger and Galapagos sharks...now we just need to see a whlae shark!

Your Choice of 4 Vessels

The Nautilus ExplorerThe Nautilus Explorer - Our flagship featuring an all new super-large dive deck and water level platform combined with picture windows around the main salon and separate dining room. We love the Explorer and she looks fantastic with her recent stretch to 132 feet in length, new air conditioning and interior updates.

Nautilus Belle AmieThe Nautilus Belle Amie - The Belle Amie is the newest and largest of the Nautilus liveaboards. She feels like a five-star floating boutique hotel, boasting spacious salon and dining areas, as well as a second open-air bar on the sun deck, an expansive dive deck and, of course, a hot tub.
Nautilus UnderseaThe Nautilus UnderSea - Many divers know this classic ship from her previous life as the Undersea Hunter of Cocos Island and IMAX fame. With massive upgrades including stretching by 20 feet, a new superstructure, an enclosed dive deck and host of other improvements, it is hard to recognize the original ship. The special feature of the UnderSea is the intimate group size of just 18 divers combined with Nautilus spaciousness and comfort and a huge dive deck and water level platform. It is important to note that the ship was launched in 1968 and she is not as new and contemporary as our other ships.
Nautilus Gallant LadyThe Nautilus Gallant Lady - Our Gallant Lady is a 116 foot yacht that accommodates just 12 guests in 6 large suites. This beautiful ship combines the luxury of a Broward motor yacht with thoughtful liveaboard dive boat design, and features a main salon and dining room with wrap-around view, aft deck, dive deck, water level platform, sky lounge and even a crow’s nest. With 1700 horsepower of Caterpillar power and hydraulic stabilizers, the Lady can speed you wherever you want to go.

Crew Matters

Accompanying you to Socorro Island will be a carefully selected team of incredible people, whose primary mission is to see to your safety and comfort. They'll work hard to make sure you enjoy maximum dive time, great food and wonderful customer service.
